Rob McElhenney, the writer, producer, and star of US comedy It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and the new co-owner of Wrexham AFC, along with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, has donated £6,000 to disabled footy fan Aiden Scott, to allow him to have a specialist bath fitted.
Sky Sports reports that less than a week after McElhenney took over the helm of the North Wales club, he has demonstrated how much he cares about the Red Dragons and its supporters with the generous donation.
Aiden, who has cerebral palsy and no use of his left-hand side and very limited use of his right side, had been quoted £6,000 for a mechanically adapted bath and hoist to help him get in and out of the bath.
The Wrexham fam who had recently moved to Manchester to be closer to his family said he had been on a waiting list for a bath from Social Services, but with a lengthy waiting list and delays due to the pandemic, he decided to set up a GoFundMe page to raise the money.
While the famous Hollywood star has not acknowledged the early morning contribution, the donation was made in his name to a GoFundMe page set up by Aiden.
The donation from Wrexham’s new owner has meant that Aiden has surpassed his target in less than 24-hours, something he is “overwhelmed” by.
He said: “I am absolutely amazed, I just can’t believe it. I thought that friends would share it and support me, but I never thought that someone famous would donate. It’s brilliant and I’m just in shock.”
Fellow Wrexham fans praised McElhenney when news of the donation reached social media, with one fan saying it was an ‘amazing gesture’.
