How Do Bath Lifts Work?

There may well come a time in the future where you start experiencing mobility or strength issues, in which case a bath lift might be something that could prove very useful indeed, lifting your body from beneath to help you get in and out of the tub.

There are various options available to you where lifts are concerned, such as seats made of reinforced plastic that you can fix to the side of the bath before using a waterproof handset to lower yourself down into the bath and then back up again.

Another option is the Bellavita, the lightest of its kind on the market. It is easy to install and operate, with four quick-release suction cups to keep it in place on the floor of the bath, making it secure to use.

There are also manual lifts that work by lowering you into the bath and then raising you back up, but this time using a hydraulic mechanism that is controlled by your weight and the buoyancy of the water.

Sitting on the chair will lower you into the water and then, when you’re ready, you sit up  and push down on the rims of the bath to release the piston, which then lifts you back up.

There are also hoists available that you may also like to consider, depending on your particular mobility needs. These raise your body from above, instead of lifting you from below, which means you don’t have to lift your legs over the edge of the bath.

It could be worth discussing your options with an occupational therapist so you know you’re making the right investment to suit your individual requirements.
